 Hawaiian Wisdom
+ Hoʻoponopono

What is Hawaiian Wisdom?

The wisdom of Hawaiian culture offers profound guidance for living with love, openness, respect, and connection—to ourselves, to one another, to the earth, and to spirit—while embracing the responsibility and privilege of consciously shaping our lives.

In many Western worldviews, people are often encouraged to see themselves as separate from one another and from the natural world, with a tendency to think in terms of opposites such as light and dark, good and bad, or masculine and feminine. Hawaiian wisdom offers another way of seeing: one that emphasises relationship, interconnectedness, and the understanding that our choices matter.

At its heart is aloha—a way of living that embraces love, joy, authenticity, compassion, and harmony with ourselves, others, and the earth. It invites us to live with openness, respect, gratitude, and responsibility, recognising that how we show up in the world influences not only our own lives but also those around us.

Over many years, Charlie has developed the 9 Hawaiian Inspirations, created in consultation with respected Hawaiian Kupuna (Elder) Aunty Mahealani Kuamoʻo-Henry.

These inspirations are woven throughout our Lomilomi Trainings and may also be explored in Paʻa Sessions to support reflection, personal growth, and each person's unique journey.

Hoʻoponopono in Paʻa Sessions

The word pono means "right" or "that which is right for oneself," and ho‘o means "to take action." Together, ho‘oponopono means "to make more right that which is already right." It is rooted in the Hawaiian understanding that every person is born knowing how to live joyfully, in unconditional love. Over time, however, it is easy to step away from this natural state. Ho‘oponopono is a practice that helps us return to our natural way of being, reconnecting with our joy, clarity, and inner guidance.

Traditionally, ho‘oponopono has been practised in various ways—from facilitated conversations between individuals who have fallen out, to mediated family gatherings designed to restore harmony.

While I do not currently offer stand-alone hoʻoponopono sessions, the principles and practices of hoʻoponopono may form part of a Paʻa Session where appropriate. Together, we explore what may be preventing you from living joyfully and in alignment with yourself, supporting greater clarity, balance, and connection.

Through this process, clients may:

  • Identify and release emotional or energetic "baggage" from the past

  • Shift limiting beliefs about themselves or others

  • Create space for renewed connections and more harmonious relationships

  • Deepen their connection with Akua (Spirit) and their own inner guidance

Every Paʻa Session is tailored to the individual and may draw on reflective conversation, hoʻoponopono principles, and other Hawaiian wisdom and practices, depending on what is most supportive for you at the time.

These sessions are always held with care, positivity, and compassion, even when exploring challenging or sensitive areas. Ho‘oponopono is not tied to any one religion but honours the understanding that we are spiritual as well as physical beings, capable of creating greater clarity, balance, and joy in our lives.

Ho‘oponopono is a lifelong practice that can support anyone who feels held back, is seeking greater peace, or wishes to make choices that foster deeper self-love, healthier relationships, and a more aligned way of living.
